Pentecost
On the first Pentecost the Christian faith began
When the Spirit descended on God's redeemed man.
The apostles were gathered with others in prayer
And Mary, Jesus' mother, was also praying there.

Jesus had promised the Holy Spirit would appear,
Giving them strength to make their doubts disappear.
On that Pentecost day God's love was outpoured
Into thirsty Christian hearts where it was stored.

A rushing wind arose bringing tongues of fire,
Breathing wisdom and courage their faith to inspire.
The apostles were transfused from timidity and fear
To become Christ's witnesses for all to hear.

The tongues of fire with their feathered touch
Were gifts from God that'd produce so much.
The Spirit of God brought His divine fire
To fuel their hearts, the apostles to inspire.

On Pentecost the Spirit entered the apostle's heart
Filling them with courage as their fears depart.
He formed their hearts into crucibles of love,
To fire the words of the Father above.

On the first Pentecost Christ's Passover was fulfilled:
All doubts of prophecy would now be stilled.
After Jesus had died to redeem the world's sin
The life of the Trinity on Pentecost would begin.

The Comforter came forth to help them overcome
Their weaknesses and doubts to better Christians become.
Sent by the Son of the Father above
To be their guide, their Spirit of love.

On that Christian Pentecost the Spirit was revealed
As the apostles hearts with God's love were sealed.
The Spirit empowered them to proclaim and preach
He brought the word they would lovingly teach.

This gift of love from God's sacrificed Son
Would guide them in His work to be done
The Spirit brought fire that ignited the heart
Of His beloved disciples, their ministry to start.

The Spirit of Pentecost, the breath of God
Sent by the Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
The Spirit of Pentecost is the Holy Ghost
Part of God's trinity that we love most.
