Our church's history began on October 7, 1961 when the Bay Area congregation of the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) was planted by Ron and Norva Kelley. (Mr. Kelly currently holds the position of Controller for WCG.) The church split several times with new congregations forming in San Francisco and San Jose. At one point, the membership for the congregation was well over 300 members.

The church rented halls in Oakland until 1995. Following a major denominational split which significantly reduced the size of most local congregations, the church moved to its current site, Christ Presbyterian Church in San Leandro. The church reached a major milestone, celebrating its 40th anniversary in February of 2004. The church adopted the local name One In Christ Community Church in February of 2004.

Although reduced in size, the church found a new direction and began to stress personal spiritual growth, a deep and growing relationship with Christ, disciple-making, evangelical outreach and a commitment to understand and meet the needs of the community. We promote healing and reconciliation; to God, to each other and to the community/

We are proud of our ever-deepening relationship with Jesus Christ. In hindsight, we can see how the road we have walked has made us more sensitive, loving and spiritually aware.

Pastor Jim Roberts

Pastor Jim Roberts, or J.R. as he likes to be called, graduated from Ambassador University in 1970, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology; along with his wife Hazel. J.R. continues to take many post-graduate classes and courses. After graduation, in June of 1970 he began full time work at the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) headquarters in Pasadena, CA. He has been employed by WCG since then.

J.R. spent his earliest years with WCG working in Production Control in the church's Data Processing Department. He rose to a supervisory position and served in various ministerial capacities throughout the decades between 1970 and the early 1990s. In 1991, J.R. was appointed Manager of Computer Information System's Information/User Support Center.

In October of 1994, J.R. was transferred to Dayton, Ohio for his first full time pastoral assignment. In June of 1994, J.R. was once again transferred to the San Francisco Bay Area to serve as pastor for the San Leandro and San Francisco WCG congregations.

J.R. is active in the community, serving as a board member for Pregnency Choices, an organization that offers health services for pregnant women, education and abortion alternatives. J.R. also assists Iglesia de Deios Evangelica LLena de Gracia and helps many worthwhile charitible organizations throughout the Bay Area.

Hazel Roberts spent 18 years serving as a bookkeeper and the Controller for the Jefferson Center for Character Education, a Non-Profit organization in Pasadena, California. She is currently Parish Administrator for Christ Presbyterian Church in San Leandro.

J.R. and Hazel have one daughter and one granddaughter, residing in Healdsburg, California.
